Where are they now?
The naughties! There was a lot bands influenced heavily by the US bands of this time and I must say it was unerving to listen to. Or was I just getting older and increasingly jaded? Who knows and who cares! After all despite all the arbitary success of some US sounding bands (the American voices were disturbing) there's always an "underground" that bubbles at the surface. Consider bands like Vicious Hairy Mary, Freudian Trip - both who featured in this issue. Also a lot of good poetry and artwork featured in this issue thanks to the help and assistance of 'the college of knowledge' friends. BLUNT, as w/prior Fred and Barney Rockout columns, also took no responsibility for any magazine expose ...
Vicious Hairy Mary
These guys were always exploring and pushing boundaries. They became quite successful too in their own cult like way. Some comparisons were made to bands like Primus but most of all these guys stood alone - take a good listen to this album 'Orchestra Phantasma' Front person Michael Lira went on to form Darth Vegas and these days is involved with composition abroad. Facebook can probably give you a better idea though https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rWYx8V5xjche
Freudian Trip
The original lineup of Darcy, Stuart, Caitlin, Kurt and Sylvester were always a lot of fun. They garnered quite a following and despite lineup changes over time, they impressed many with their forward thinking sounds etc. Darcy these days plays in Beijing Bikini whilst Sylvester has a band called The Magnificent Companeros. Stu, after some time working with Ben Connor in Double Helix, is busy doing acrobatics and runs a few workshops in the Blue Mountains. Caitlin has been doing many a composition with quite a lot of acclaim
