Where are they now?
1988! The embarrassment of 200 years of colonisation. Hence, there was obviously some fodder to write about, and what better place than a zine, where you can write without the constraints of advertorials etc.
On board we had an ex Ram writer, who went under the pseudonym of 'The Murderess'. To this day I swear that the launch for this issue would never have received the same traction w/out their help. That launch at the Palace Hotel in Darlinghurst w/The Craven Fops, Even As We Speak and Tom Ryan was most memorable. It was a packed Sunday and I can remember The Murderess and I flogging the zine on the sidewalk of the pub; the stream of cars shouting obscenities as they passed by on Flinders and South Dowling St (Darlinghurst).
The layout of issue 3 was a tad more fancier and some may say the writing upped a notch. Was weird to be approached at the launch by a friend of 'The Murderess' who was interested in co-opting the zine into a more professional look; they had these ideas of the zine moving more into the advert world. For a week or so it did take some thought, but being a zine those ideas were somewhat quashed. In the following issues we did make a feeble attempt to get some advertising, but we didnt get much further than a tattooist in Kings Cross or Pete's Musician Market down the south end of King St - which is still there by the way https://musiciansmarket.com.au/as
Here's a snippet of what issue 3 bands are up to these days;
Scattered Order - to this day they still exist after 44 years of creating; one real mean feat and with Mitch Jones at the helm (w/creative help from Michael Tee (RIP 2024),Shane Fahey, Dru Jones etc), they're the epitome of the word 'independent'. Check out these links

Tom Ryan - what happened to Tom Ryan the poet? If you know let us know ...
Even As We Speak - another true epitome of the word 'independent' - a band who also got out of Sydney and still share their music to the world via Sarah Records in the UK - check out their nearly four decades of history and better still...
Craven Fops forged a unique name for themselves with 'chaotic and beautiful rock and roll' from 1984 to 1991 w/various reunions since - read an listen to these links

FRED AND BARNEY'S ROCKOUT have both retired (long gone in fact). You may spy one of them either riding a skateboard in Japan or cataloguing books in the Sydney CBD. Let us know how yo go. And let it be known, we here at Blunt fanzine take no responsibility for their cheap tray laughs and dripping media humour in issues 3 and 4.
